2023 GRENACHE
THE WINE:
The favourite. A small 90 year old planting West of Nuriootpa.
TASTING NOTE:
Floral abundance evident instantly on the nose, rose petal, violets and lavender. Bosy light to medium in weight, a sense of plushness instantly in the mouthfeel, bright red cherries, blackberry and red fruits fill the palate. Fine dusty chalky tannin.
VINIFICATION:
75% whole bunch with the remainder whole berry. Minimal punch downs, and is mostly intracellular in fermentation. We're aiming for light weight, fine chalky tannin with a pretty fruit concentration. A few tweaks on last year's process, has provided more structure, perfumed nose, and fruit concentration whilst still staying very light, and very fine.
‣ Minimal sulphur added
‣ Wild yeast fermentation
‣ No fining or filtration
‣ 13.5% alc
REVIEWS:
94 points - Steve Leszczynski (QWine Reviews)
“What a flavour bomb we have here! It's melt in your mouth kind of stuff. So evocative, so expressive, it's an absolute delight to drink and demands selfishness and large pours at that. What an absolute winner!”
94 points - Sam Kim (Wine Orbit)
“It's gorgeously complex and engaging on the nose with dark plum, smoked game, bay leaf and warm spice aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and plump mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by fine, grainy tannins, finishing persistent and sturdy. An intriguing take on the variety, showing spicy / herbal nuances with beautifully harmonious mouthfeel.”
