Cabernet/ Mataro/ Syrah.
Intrigue, how will three big bold Barossa heavy weights look made in White Gate's style?
100% whole berry across all ferments, soft punch downs to keep the cap moist during ferment, no pump overs, extremely soft handling. All early picks, bar the Mataro that was out to hang till 13.5 Be to warn off any 'greenness'.
The weight here is quite light, all parcels were fermented, pressed and put to barrel separately, and blended pre-bottle.
Interestingly, each grape's personality is on show, not hidden behind oak nor alcohol. It's fascinating how pretty these three Barossa varieties look picked early.
Who'd think Cab/Mataro/Syrah could look so soft & pretty?
93 - Sam Kim
A fascinating expression using Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Syrah, it's perfumed on the nose with dark berry, olive, warm spice and toasted almond characters. The palate delivers lovely weight and fleshy texture, wonderfully framed by layers of polished tannins, finishing robust and sturdy.
91 - Mike Bennie
Peppery, herbal whiffs over mulberry and choc-cherry with faint game meat elements rolling on by. It’s a ‘new Barossa’ feel here, brighter and fruit driven in style with crunch in texture, fine, silty tannins and a quaffability in tow. It feels vibrant and led by its herb and spice elements, not quite a lighter, chillable red style but not far off it. It gives off good vibes.
